A Theory of Education in the Age of the Internet

Those interested in the natural laws of education, championed by Charlotte Mason, will find a rich feast of ideas publicly available online. Unfortunately, with the great fragmented nature of the Internet, it can be nearly impossible to find exactly what you are looking for.

Vital Interests exists as a curated database of research and resources available today, organized for your convenience. Find the latest blogposts or podcasts, jump into Mason’s books online, or search the Encyclopedia to find varied sources by topic.

Getting Started

Miss Mason defines education as a work in three parts – atmosphere, discipline, and living ideas. These apply to adults studying a philosophy of education just as much as they do children studying mathematics – why not slow down and see for yourself?

  • Apply ‘atmosphere’ by studying with an attitude of interest, in an environment that helps sharpen your attention. Consider joining a study group.
  • Practice the discipline of reading a section (or listening to an episode) once, and then narrating it (aloud or in a journal).
  • Read inspiring ideas in rich language, even when some of it goes over your head. Write out some questions before studying it again.
  • Add other parts of the method to your self-education as you learn about them. It’s joyous pursuit that matters, not perfection.

Glorious Books lists paper books about Mason and her work, as well as digitalized books and articles written by Miss Mason and those in her Parent’s Union Schools.
